About Us

The Royal City Musical Theatre Company is a non-profit, charitable organization, created to present quality musical theatre.

We feel there is a place for locally produced musical theatre in the community and our shows have verified that premise. Attendance has grown steadily each year. Our first production attracted 5,000 people and recent years have seen audiences of between 15,000 and 20,000 patrons.

Formed in 1989 in New Westminster, British Columbia, our goal is to constantly improve the calibre of performances. The pursuit of excellence in all of our productions advances this goal. Over our short history we have attracted increasingly higher quality of talent and are now acclaimed as "one of the premier musical theatre groups" in Canada.

Each year competition to win the roles in our production is intense and it is not unusual to attract over 250 hopefuls auditioning for 50 parts. Our success is a result of these talented people and the many dedicated volunteers from all over the lower mainland area of British Columbia.

The Royal City Musical Theatre Society is incorporated under the Societies Act of British Columbia for the following stated purposes:

  1. To produce quality musical theatre and present it to the general public;
  2. To enhance the appreciation of musical theatre in and around the City of New Westminster;
  3. To encourage community involvement by people of all ages in musical theatre productions;
  4. To provide practical experience in the musical theatre arts for young people.
